Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 exhibit unveiled at the Royal BC Museum!
Wildlife photography is no easy task! But it’s the combination of skill, precision, and sheer luck required to capture a great shot that makes wildlife photography so stunning. The finalists of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 competition produced some of the best wildlife photographs in the world—and you can see them on display at the Royal BC Museum from now until April 9, 2012.
Expert photographers and nature lovers alike will marvel at the images in the exhibit. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, put on annually by London’s Natural History Museum and BBC Wildlife Magazine, gets entries by professionals, talented amateurs, and young photographers from all around the world. Some of the best photos from the contest’s 41 000 entries are now on display at the Royal BC Museum’s exhibit for you to discover. Explore the photography through the exhibit’s categories, which include Photojournalist of the Year, Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Underwater World, and Wild Places. The photos are incredibly diverse; each photo uniquely illustrative of the majesty of wildlife in the world we live.
This year’s only Canadian winner is Martin Cooper from just across the water in Burnaby, BC. His captivating shot of a coyote walking down railway tracks earned a “Highly Commended” title. “This is like the Oscars of wildlife photography,” said Cooper about the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
Once you see the 108 stunning photos in the exhibit, you’ll see what he means! Admission to the Royal BC Museum is about $15 for adults, unless you act fast and take advantage of the admission by donation on until January 9th (suggested minimum donation $5). While you're at the museum, take a trip to BC's past and walk through their famous historical exhibits. Find out more about admission and exhibits at the Royal BC Museum website.
